This process has taught me the importance of integrating technology into the classroom. It also provided many ideas as to how I can use technology in my classroom. Technology is a part of daily world and students need to learn how to use it as reference tool.
While some of the tools took me longer than anticipated, I learn to be patient when experiencing new tools. I also have to keep this in mind as I show the students the different tools.
Skype is a great tool that allows us to communicate in video conferencing. Students can communicate with other students in their grade level from different schools within our district and out. It can also be used as a tool to communicate with authors and other professionals.
These are two topics we cover in 1st grade.
The Plant Cycle:
Body Parts of an Insect:
I had a good time making this digital story. The part that took the longest was picking out the pictures. I could definitely see the students making a video reflecting over the fieldtrips they take. This is a good way for the students to share their experience with their family and friends.

I joined diigo.com. It is an interesting and useful site. It allows us to highlight and make comments directly on the page. I can see this as a tool where the students can access the different websites quickly.
I found the following websites through diigo:
http://www.storyplace.org/eel/other.asp : This website offers the students short stories which the students can read or follow along.
http://blog.learningtoday.com/blog/bid/25937/No-Words-Needed-Interactive-Games-for-Kids: This website provides links to reading and math interactive games.

Google Reader is a very handy tool. It makes it easier to stay on top of the news and updated on blogs I've signed up for. It nice to have the blogs all on the same page instead of going from one page to another and so on.

One can easily get distracted when mosaic is involved. The mosaic is good tool students can use to visually show what they are learning. I would make sure that the students don't spend too much time looking for the "right" pictures because then the product will never be completed.
ImageChef can be used to introduce new vocabulary to the students. It prints the words several times. A good tool to display the different vocabulary 1st graders encounter.
